About

What is Melanotan 2 10mg?

Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic lactam peptide analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), first synthesized at the University of Arizona in the 1980s. Structurally it is a truncated, stabilized seven-residue cyclic peptide (Ac-Nle-Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys-NH₂) with broad melanocortin receptor activity.

Mechanism of Action

MT-2 is a non-selective agonist of the melanocortin receptors (MC1R–MC5R), with strongest binding affinity at MC1R (melanogenesis) and MC4R (central effects including appetite modulation and sexual arousal signaling). It does not discriminate between receptor subtypes as selectively as newer analogues like PT-141 or afamelanotide.

Discovery & Context

Developed as part of research into sun-protective peptides led by Hadley and Hruby. Its structural optimization eventually led to afamelanotide (Scenesse), an FDA-approved medication for erythropoietic protoporphyria. MT-2 itself remains a pre-clinical research compound.

Research use only. Language such as "may," "appears to," and "has been shown in published studies" is used throughout to reflect the pre-clinical nature of this literature. Not intended for human consumption, diagnosis, or treatment.
Background

Research Context

Published research literature covers the following areas:

  • Melanocortin receptor binding profiles
  • Tyrosinase and melanogenesis pathways
  • MC4R-mediated central signaling
  • Comparative studies vs. afamelanotide
  • Cyclic peptide stability research

LAR supplies this compound as a reference standard to qualified laboratories. No dosing schedules, administration methods, or human-use guidance is provided or implied.

Questions

Frequently Asked

Is this FDA approved?

No. Research peptides supplied by LAR are reference materials for laboratory investigation. They are not approved by the FDA or any national regulatory body for human use.

Does this vial require reconstitution?

Yes. Vials ship as lyophilized powder, giving your lab control over solvent selection and final concentration. Reconstitution should follow your laboratory's standard practice.

How is purity verified?

Each manufacturing batch is tested by an independent third-party laboratory using HPLC-UV analysis. The full report, including chromatogram and mass spectrometry, is available above.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship within 1–2 business days via discreet packaging.
